   Exit Information

  Exit Interviews
Before you graduate, or if you drop below half time attendance, federal regulation requires that you complete an exit counseling session. You are provided information on your obligation to repay your Federal loans, as well as on conditions for deferment, forbearance, and cancellation. These sessions are also an opportunity for you to become more knowledgeable about loan management after college.

If you are withdrawing, you should contact us at 617-373-3190 so we can provide you with information on the loans that you have borrowed while in attendance at Northeastern.

  May Graduates
The schedule of exit interview sessions is posted in March for students who will be graduating in May. Watch for an NU Announcement which will provide you with information on the dates, times, and locations of the exit interview sessions. You are required to attend an exit interview session before you graduate. At each of the sessions we will discuss your rights and responsibilities as a student borrower entering into repayment. Additionally, we are available to answer any questions that you have regarding repayment options and other debt management concerns.

Sessions last approximately one hour. At the end of the session you will complete and sign the required exit interviews form(s). Please make sure that you bring the following information with you in order to complete the required paperwork:

•Your Social Security Number
•Your Driver’s License Number
•Name, address, and telephone number for one of your parents or your other nearest relative.
•Name, address, and telephone numbers for a personal reference who resides at different address than you.
•Name, address, and telephone number for your expected employer (if known).
NOTE: Providing names and information for your parents, spouse, next of kin and references does not obligate them to assist with repayment of your student loan. Regulation requires you provide this data so your loan holder can locate you in the future; for example, if they have an invalid address or phone number.
•Borrowers of Federal Perkins, Nursing, Health Professions, and Physician’s Assistant loans must also complete a Personal Data Sheet.

  September And January Graduates
Students that receive a diploma in either September or January receive an exit packet in the mail after commencement. NU's Loan Collection office sends information to graduating students who have borrowed a Federal Perkins, Nursing, Health Professions, or Physician’s Assistant Loan prior to graduation.

You will need to complete and return the exit interview checklist to the Student Loan Office in the enclosed envelope. Please keep the yellow copy for your records and return the white copy.

  FSA Ombudsman Office
The Ombudsman's office is a resource for borrowers when other approaches to resolving student loan problems have failed. Contact: toll-free at 1-877-577-2575 or online at http://fsahelp.ed.gov.
