Exit Interviews |
|
| |
 |
Before you graduate, or if you drop below half time attendance, federal regulation requires that you complete an exit counseling session. You are provided information on your obligation to repay your Federal loans, as well as on conditions for deferment, forbearance, and cancellation. These sessions are also an opportunity for you to become more knowledgeable about loan management after college.
If you are withdrawing, you should contact us at 617-373-3190 so we can provide you with information on the loans that you have borrowed while in attendance at Northeastern.
Your entire federal loan history is available by visiting the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) website (www.nslds.ed.gov). The same federal PIN used in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can be used to log in to the NSLDS website and obtain your federal loan history.
If you borrowed any private loans while attending the university, please contact your lender(s) directly for information regarding current balances, repayment, and deferment options.

May Graduates |
|
| |
 |
The schedule of exit interview sessions is posted in March for students who will be graduating in May. Watch for an NU Announcement which will provide you with information on the dates, times, and locations of the exit interview sessions. At each of the sessions we will discuss your rights and responsibilities as a student borrower entering into repayment. Additionally, we are available to answer any questions that you have regarding repayment options and other debt management concerns.
Sessions last approximately one hour. At the end of the session you will be provided with the required exit interview documents. The following information will be needed in order for you to complete the required documentation:
•Your Social Security Number
•Your Driver’s License Number
•Name, address, and telephone number for one of your parents or your other nearest relative.
•Name, address, and telephone numbers for a personal reference who resides at different address than you.
•Name, address, and telephone number for your expected employer (if known).
• NOTE: Providing names and information for your parents, spouse, next of kin and references does not obligate them to assist with repayment of your student loan. Regulation requires you provide this data so your loan holder can locate you in the future; for example, if they have an invalid address or phone number.
•Borrowers of Federal Perkins, Nursing, Health Professions, and Physician’s Assistant loans must also complete a Personal Data Sheet. |

August And December Graduates |
|
| |
 |
If you are a student graduating in August or December, you are required to complete a Federal Loan Exit Interview prior to leaving the university. Your diploma will not be released until all necessary steps are complete.
Before you begin the exit interview process, you will need your federal loan history. You can obtain this information from the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) website (www.nslds.ed.gov). The same federal PIN used in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can be used to log in to the NSLDS website and view your federal loan history.
Note that there are two separate processes that you may need to complete depending on which types of loans you borrowed:
1) If you borrowed a Federal Stafford or PLUS loan, you can complete the online exit counseling for these loans by visiting the appropriate site below. If you have any questions about this process, feel free to contact your financial aid counselor. Be sure to keep confirmation that you completed your session:
• Undergraduate Students go to: http://mappingyourfuture.org/sx
• Graduate Students go to: http://mappingyourfuture.org/sgx
2) If you borrowed a Federal Perkins, Health Professions, Nursing and/or Physician Assistant Student Loan, the Student Loan Collections Office (253 Richards Hall - 617.373.2160) will contact you with details for completing the exit process. If you completed an Exit Interview for these types of loans in a prior semester, but did not graduate, you will need to complete another Exit Interview as the dates of loan repayment will change.
If you have questions about any information pertaining to your federal loan exit interview, please contact the appropriate office listed above depending on your loan type(s) and which processes you need to complete. |
