   Northeastern Grants & Scholarships - Need-Based Grant

  Undergraduate Day Need-Based Grants
For Undergraduate Day Students, most grants and scholarships funded by Northeastern require that a student demonstrate financial need. These grants and scholarships are provided, in part, through the generosity of individual donors, alumni, corporations, and other resources. Most need-based grants and scholarships are awarded for a total of eight academic semesters. An academic semester is a term in which a student is enrolled in classes and paying Northeastern tuition, as opposed to participating in Co-op. Students must continue to make uninterrupted progress toward their degrees and maintain their academic standing in order to receive grant funding.

  • Grants do not need to be repaid

  • Students who complete the necessary application requirements will be considered for all eligible Need-based Grant.

  • Most incoming students are awarded a five year Northeastern University Grant commitment.

  • Need-based Grants are not available for Graduate students.

  • The office of Student Financial Services does not provide institutional scholarship assitance for students in the School of Professional and Continuing Studies. SPCS students should visit the SPCS scholarship website for information on applying for scholarships.

  Determining Award Amounts
Each application for assistance is reviewed to determine the student’s eligibility for all types of financial aid. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE forms are the primary documents used by Northeastern to collect information on a family’s financial situation and determine financial need.* The same standards are applied to all applicants. Your Offer of Financial Assistance is derived from a number of factors. We begin with the estimated cost of education. From this, we subtract the Expected Family Contribution (EFC),† which is derived from information you submitted on the FAFSA and CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE forms, to arrive at your financial need. In addition to the need component, Northeastern recognizes a student’s academic potential when awarding institutional grant funds.

*Financial Need The difference between the cost of education and the expected family contribution is your financial need. It is Northeastern’s intent to meet as much of a student’s financial need as available funds will allow. An aid package may include a combination of grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study.
Expected Family Contribution (EFC) The primary responsibility for financing an education rests with students and their families. Institutional, federal, and state assistance is intended to be a supplement for families who need assistance meeting these costs.
