  Federal Pell Grants
A Federal Pell Grant does not have to be repaid. Pell Grants are only awarded to undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor's or professional degree. The Pell Grant program is targeted to high need students, your eligibility will also depend upon your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Your EFC is calculated utilizing a formula established by Congress when your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is processed. Eligibility for Pell Grant funds is determined by your EFC and enrollment status (fulltime, 3/4 time, 1/2 time, less than 1/2 time). These grants of up to $4,310 (the maximum award for 2007–2008) are awarded to undergraduate students.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG)
A Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is for undergraduates with exceptional financial need--that is, students with the lowest Expected Family Contributions (EFCs)--and gives priority to students who receive Federal Pell Grants. An FSEOG doesn't have to be paid back. These grants are made directly through the Office of Student Financial Services to students. Grants range from $500 to $2000. Specific amounts are based on funds available and the number of students with exceptional financial need as determined by Student Financial Services. Please note that FSEOG funds are only available for undergraduate day students; students in the School of Professional and Continuing Studies are not eligible to receive these funds.

  Federal ACG And SMART Grants
Generally, to be awarded the ACG or SMART grant a student must also be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant (have an EFC below $3,850), be a U.S. citizen, and be enrolled full-time. In addition to these general requirements, there are program-specific requirements.

The Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) is available to students who:
• Are in their first or second year of college.
• Graduated from high school after January 1, 2005, and were not previously enrolled in an undergraduate program.
• Have completed a rigorous secondary school program.
• Have a 3.0 cumulative GPA for renewal in the second year.

The ACG will provide up to $750 for the first year of study and $1,300 for the second year of study.

The SMART (National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent) Grant is available to students who:
• Are in their third or fourth year of college.
• Are majoring in physical, life, or computer sciences, mathematics, technology engineering, or in a foreign language determined critical to national security.
• Maintain a 3.0 GPA in coursework required for a student's eligible program.
• Are enrolled in an in-class semester
• Are making Satisfactory Academic Progress in their major.

The SMART Grant will provide up to $4,000 for the third and fourth year of study.

  Federal TEACH Grants (Tentative Criteria)
The TEACH Grant provides up to $4,000 a year to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. In exchange for receiving the TEACH Grant, you must teach for at least four academic years within eight calendar years of completing the program of study for which you received the grant. If you fail to complete this service obligation, all amounts of TEACH Grants that you received will be converted to a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan with interest charged from the date the grant(s) was disbursed.

To be eligible for a TEACH Grant, students must meet the following criteria:
• Complete the FAFSA, although you do not have to demonstrate financial need.
• Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
• Be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student.
• Be enrolled in coursework that is necessary to begin a career in teaching.
• Meet certain academic achievement requirements (Scoring above the 75th percentile on a college admissions test or maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25).
• Sign a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve

At this time, regulations for TEACH Grant program are not final. If you indicated on your FAFSA that you are interested in a Federal TEACH Grant and meet eligibility requirements, we will contact you when the program guidelines and processes are finalized later this summer. General information about the TEACH Grant can be found at: www.teachgrant.ed.gov.
