  Offer of Financial Assistance

Once all of your information has been submitted and reviewed by our office, an Offer of Financial Assistance will be created for you. If you are a first-year applicant, you must first be accepted as a degree seeking candidate before an offer can be created for you. The offer of financial assistance will outline the financial aid that you are eligible to receive for the specified academic year. Please pay close attention to the language contained in the offer of assistance. Depending on the type of aid you receive, the award letter will provide important information about the paperwork and processes that are necessary to obtain federal loans, student employment positions, or other sources of financial aid.

You do not need to submit additional information, such as tax forms, to the Office of Student Financial Services unless we specifically request this information. Should we need to request additional documents from you, we will indicate this to you in writing. You will also be able to check the status of documents under the Self-Service tab of myNEU. Click on "My Financial Aid Status" in the Financial Services box. Documents that have been requested will be shown under the "Your Documents" tab.

Declining Your Award
Should you decide to decline any part of your award, we ask that you indicate on the offer letter which type(s) of assistance you are reducing or declining by noting your wishes next to the specific type(s) of assistance. Please sign, date, and return the letter to our office. Before mailing the letter, you may wish to make a copy of it for your files. Award components can be declined at any time.

Additional documentation may be required for some types of aid that you have been awarded. Below are the common examples:

Federal Stafford Loans
Students must complete an online entrance interview through myNEU in order for the loan to be processed.

Federal Perkins, Health Professions, Nursing Student and Mass No Interest Loans
You are required to sign a promissory note before any funds can be deposited into your student account. These documents will be sent to you to complete and send back to our office.

Student Employment
For any student that has been offered either Federal Work-Study or NU Job or wishes to work on campus. They must complete both an I-9 and W-4 with the office of student employment in order to work on campus. Required documents must be presented in person.    Disbursement Of Aid

Most aid is disbursed to students in the terms where they are enrolled in classes and have been charged tuition. Federal Pell Grants and State Grants are typically awarded over Fall and Spring terms only. Federal Stafford Loans are disbusred equally over all terms of enrollment, and can be disbursed during terms when students are enrolled in Co-op. Most additional loans that are borrowed by either parents or students are also disbursed equally over a student's enrollment pattern.

All Financial Aid funds, including alternative loan funds, are disbursed directly to the Student Account.
